Within the first year of arriving home from China, we learned of an exciting opportunity that would allow us to find out more about Ningdu and possibly see the finding spot where our daughter was retrieved. What made this exciting was the potential for receiving a wealth of information, albeit visual, about this rural community in the Jiangxi Province. We contracted with Asia Threads out of Topeka, Kansas, and the result was dozens of pictures, some physical keepsakes and a deeper appreciation for where our daughter was born.
In this picture, a man is holding a photo that was taken within moments of receiving our daughter in Nanchang. We are joined in that picture with our daughter's primary caretaker. I've seen her in many pictures with other children. It is a bit strange to see the three of us before the steps of her orphanage. Another requested photo shows exactly where our daughter was found on November 3, 2003. We will post a few more photos of Ningdu in the coming weeks. Carol Debacker, the owner of Asia Threads, and her partner in China, Peter, do a great job of helping to piece together a very special story that stretches over many, many miles.
Part of the package we received was a stone that was retrieved by the orphanage. Together, with the soil we brought back in a film canister, our daughter now has a small part of China in her possession that will always be with her, for the rest of her life.
Thanks, Carol!
