It was exactly three years ago when we arrived in Nanchang's Lake View Hotel and awaited the arrival of our facilitator who would take us to the Civil Affairs Office to receive our daughter. That happy moment would happen at 4:30 p.m., September 27, 2004.
However, it is now after 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday night, September 26, 2007, and our family awaits the arrival of "Gotcha Day," or, as we have more appropriately termed this important day, Family Day. Our daughter knows that September 27 is a very big day for our family and that we will celebrate in our own, very special way. When asked, "Where would you like to go for dinner?" she replied simply by saying, "somewhere for rice!" No doubt, we'll find that special place.
We gave her a single pink long stem rose in a vase last year and explained, as best we could, the meaning of Family Day. Tomorrow, on September 27 (USA time), she will receive another pink rose and everything else that comes with celebrating the glorious start of our family. Our daughter is our one and only, and so whatever we do to celebrate the happiness that this adoption has brought to our family, we will do so with thanks to God, and to our family and friends who gave us strength when we most needed it.
To all others who are also celebrating a Family Day, congratulations!
