genetics or environment?
We have two little ones from China, the oldest is four from Baoji, Shaanxi, and of course my little Ningdu gal, 27mths. I'm convinced their little personalities were developed before we gathered them into our arms at 9 and 8mths. Our oldest is outgoing and funny but also serious, anxious, and seems to think on things for days or weeks even. Nope, not our Ningdu girl! She is hilarious, very social, and has not a care in the world. But stubborn! Oh my! So, I've been told it's birth order - it's typical for the oldest to be more serious than the younger siblings, but I really don't see that as the case since their personalities haven't changed much since day one. Funny though, the oldest is a lot like me, the youngest more like her Dad at least in the stubborn sense! In any case, our little (23lbs soaking wet at 27mths) Ningdu babe is a dynamo, a spitfire, who can run and play with the best of them and not back down from a challenge! I can't wait to see her grow up - she's going to be a force to be reckoned with!! Just don't grow up too fast little cutie 'cuz we're having so much fun watching you each and every day!

My guess is that both genetics and the environment have helped to mold the personalities of our kids. So much of what I've read about the Ningdu girls reminds me of our young princess. Very independent, strong willed, stubborn, always wanting to learn, funny, entertaining and I'll stop there. Our daughter arrived in the orphanage within 24 hours of being born, so her first 10 months was of an institutional existence, unlike those that may have been raised early on in a foster home environment. Yes, indeed, we have some wonderful young little girls who will most definitely make a real contribution to our world.
