CCAA's 2006 Visit to the U.S.

In April 2006, CCAA Director-General Lu Ying led a delegation from the China Centre for Adoption Affairs to the United States to meet with families with children from China. Director-General Lu had also scheduled several other adoption-related meetings while in the U.S. Our family was honored to be provided the opportunity to meet the Director-General and members of his delegation at a private dinner held in San Gabriel, California, which is just outside of Los Angeles.

Director-General Lu was truly interested in meeting with families and to hear stories about the children and of their post-adoption adjustment. Prior to our dinner meeting, which lasted about two hours, we were told that the CCAA delegation would love to have pictures of children to take back to China. We prepared a photo album, together with a companion CD of pictures, and a letter that briefly described our family's experience. The Director-General also mentioned that he would enjoy having pictures sent to his office for everyone to see, "these healthy children with their new and happy families."

Our family brought gifts for our visitors and, in exchange, some small gifts were given to us by the CCAA delegation. Director-General Lu presented me with his personal business card, which I have copied. If other families are so inclined to send pictures to CCAA, the address on his card will assure speedy delivery.
